Katerera, Rubirizi District –
Hon. Atwijukire Boaz has donated over 100 iron sheets to 20 households in Rusoro, Rutondo, and Kagarama villages that were recently devastated by heavy rainfall and hailstorms. The disaster destroyed houses, crops, and banana plantations, leaving many families struggling to survive. Each household received five iron sheets to help in rebuilding their homes.
The donation ceremony, held at Kagarama Trading Centre, was attended by affected families and local leaders. Hon. Boaz expressed deep sympathy for the victims, pledging continued support and describing the initiative as a step towards restoring hope for families that had lost nearly everything. He also challenged residents to adopt climate-smart farming practices to safeguard their livelihoods against future disasters.
Madam Kyokutamba Anet, the women’s chairperson of Rugarama Village and one of the beneficiaries, expressed her gratitude, describing Hon. Boaz’s gesture as a beacon of hope. She thanked him for his generosity and timely intervention, while also calling upon government and development partners to extend further assistance. She warned that without additional support, families in Kyabakara risk sliding deeper into hunger and poverty.
Madam Turyamusiima Grolius, the coordinator for Team Boaz, emphasized fairness and transparency in the distribution exercise, noting that every affected household received an equal share. She explained that the intervention was part of Team Boaz’s emergency response efforts to restore dignity and hope to disaster-hit families. She further promised continued mobilization of resources to ensure that all victims receive the support they need.
Meanwhile, Hon. Kambendiho Godfrey, the Rubirizi District Vice Chairperson and councillor representing Kyabakara Subcounty, commended Hon. Boaz for his timely response. He urged other leaders and institutions to join efforts in supporting affected families.
Hon. Godfrey also directed local leaders to continue registering all affected households and to ensure proper documentation is submitted to the district for government relief. He reminded families to actively participate in the registration process, warning that failure to do so often results in missing out on assistance when it becomes available.
