The High Court in Kampala has nullified Elias Nalukoola Luyimbazi's election as Member of Parliament for Kawempe North and ordered a by-election, following a successful petition by the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) Faridah Nambi Kigongo. Justice Bernard Namanya of the High Court's Civil Division in Kampala ruled that Nalukoola personally campaigned on election day—evidence that the election process was marred by intimidation and violence.
"At Mbogo Primary School playground (KAT-MAJ) and Kazo Angola Polling Station (KAL–KZ) at LC.I, Nalukoola campaigned, which is an offence under Sections 100(1)(a) and (b), 100(2)(a), and 100(3) of the Parliamentary Elections Act (Cap 177)," the judge ruled.

National Unity Platform’s Nalukoola had won the Kawempe North by-election on March 13, 2025, with 17,939 votes, defeating Faridah Nambi of the NRM, who garnered 9,058 votes.

The NRM subsequently announced a legal challenge to the outcome, launching a series of court battles during which multiple witnesses accused Nalukoola of winning a highly fraudulent election, citing the destruction of results from 15 polling stations.

The highly contested election also left over 15 journalists assaulted by masked Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) soldiers, with several suffering permanent injuries.
