The Federation of East Africa Schools Sports Association (FEASSA) President, Justus Mugisha, has described this year’s games host, Morogoro City, as the best host the games will have had in the last 22 years.
Mugisha, who last weekend led the FEASSA executive team on their first inspection of facilities in the eastern city of Tanzania, said the games have rotated among several cities in the region, but Morogoro has proved to be one of the most interesting hosts among all the places the games have been held.

“We have successfully concluded our first inspection of our next host, Morogoro, and what I can assure you is that Morogoro has the potential of being the best host ever. It has everything, from sports facilities to sufficient accommodation, venues, hotels, food, nightlife, and tourism sites,” Mugisha said. Indeed, the FEASSA Games have, apart from the battles on the fields of play, also provided an avenue for sports tourism for athletes and officials across member states.

Morogoro is a city located in the eastern part of Tanzania, approximately 196km west of Dar es Salaam, and it serves as the capital of the Morogoro Region. It is a prime destination for nature lovers and adventurers, anchored by the stunning Uluguru Mountains and national parks such as Mikumi and Udzungwa, where key attractions include scenic hiking in the Ulugurus, wildlife viewing, waterfalls like Choma and Hululu, and rich cultural experiences.
Morogoro is informally referred to as Mji Kasoro Bahari, which translates to “a city without an ocean or a port,” and for all the above reasons, the FEASSA President is right.

In addition, this year’s edition of the games, due in August, will give Ugandan athletes a test of endurance, as they will be required to travel for over 24 hours across a distance of more than 1,500km to the host city.
It will be the fifth time Tanzania is hosting the games in the past 22-year history of the competition, and the first time in Morogoro, as previous editions were hosted in Dar es Salaam (2006 and 2014) and Arusha in 2019 and 2022.

The FEASSA executive named Morogoro as host after the 22nd edition of the games, which were held in Kakamega, Kenya, last year. Uganda are the defending champions, having won the overall title in last year’s edition in Kakamega, Kenya. This marked the fifth consecutive time the regional giants have claimed the title over formerly dominant Kenya, following triumphs in 2019 and 2022 in Arusha, 2023 in Huye, Rwanda, and 2024 in Bukedea, Uganda.
