Kyankwanzi District
Police in Kyankwanzi District have launched investigations into a suspected triple murder case after an angry mob lynched two men who were allegedly found with a decomposing woman’s body in their house.
The incident, which occurred in Kiryanongo Village, has shocked residents and raised fresh concerns over mob justice in rural communities.
According to the Uganda Police Force spokesperson for the Wamala Region, Lameck Kigozi, the deceased suspects have been identified as Ssemasaka and Hakiza Damaseni, both adult males of Rwandan origin and residents of the area.
Preliminary police findings indicate that the two were attacked and killed by a mob after villagers allegedly discovered a decomposing body inside their house. The body is believed to be that of a woman identified as Vensi, a resident of Nakabugo Village, who had earlier been reported missing.
Residents reportedly grew suspicious after a strong, foul smell was noticed emanating from the suspects’ residence. This prompted a search, during which the decomposing body was discovered, sparking anger among community members.
The situation quickly escalated, with the mob descending on the two suspects and killing them before security personnel could intervene.
The matter was later reported to police at Bananywa Police Station by the area village chairman, prompting a response from law enforcement authorities.
Police officers, led by the District Police Commander of Kyankwanzi District, visited the scene and commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The bodies of all three deceased individuals were transported to Ntwetwe Health Centre IV for post-mortem examination as part of ongoing inquiries.
Kigozi condemned the act of mob justice and urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
“We appeal to members of the public to always report suspected criminal activities to the police and allow due process of the law to take its course,” he said.
Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of death of the woman and the events that led to the tragic incident.
