The State House Anti-Corruption Unit, working jointly with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), has arraigned Tumusiime Julian, a secretary in the Health Department of Kyankwanzi District, before the Magistrates Court on charges of obtaining money by false pretence and demanding money by menaces. According to investigators, Tumusiime is accused of fraudulently obtaining UGX 5 million from an individual under the guise of helping them secure a nursing job within the Kyankwanzi District Local Government.
The court heard that Tumusiime, with intent to defraud, misled the victim into believing she could influence recruitment into the district’s health department. The victim later reported the matter after realising the promised employment did not materialize. Further investigations have revealed that Tumusiime, along with other individuals still at large, has allegedly been involved in a wider scheme of extorting money from multiple job seekers in the district, using similar false promises of employment.
She was remanded to custody until 22nd July 2025 as investigations continue. Authorities have warned the public to be vigilant and report any suspected cases of job-related extortion or bribery, emphasizing that recruitment into public service is strictly merit-based and free of charge.
