Mary Karooro Okurut, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Public Relations, has commended Kampala International University (KIU) for its remarkable impact on community transformation.
“Kampala International University has had a profound impact on the economy of Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality. The university's presence has spurred economic growth, with locals setting up houses for rent, shops, and businesses, creating employment opportunities,” Okurut noted.
She made these remarks while presiding over an Open Day function at the university's premises in Ishaka Town, Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality. The Open Day aimed to engage with communities by showcasing the university’s potential to deliver high-quality education. It also highlighted the institution’s facilities, including various faculties and the teaching hospital.
Basajjabalaba commended
Karooro also commended Hassan Basajjabalaba, the founder of Kampala International University (KIU), for his significant contributions to education and community development. She acknowledged that establishing the university provided opportunities for young people to access quality education, positively impacting their lives and the community at large.
“By setting up KIU, Basajjabalaba has been recognized for his efforts in educating young children through bursaries. This gesture has enabled many students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue their educational dreams, promoting social mobility and equality,” she noted.
Advancements in research and environmental studies
Associate Professor Eric Magonga, the Vice Chancellor of KIU’s Western Campus, revealed that the university has established state-of-the-art environmental laboratories.
“Our researchers are actively exploring innovative solutions to combat climate change,” Magonga stated.
He added that the university has conducted extensive research in various fields, including environmental science and public health, reinforcing its commitment to delivering high-quality education and promoting community engagement.
