Police in Kabale are investigating the circumstances under which a woman, only identified as Patricia, a resident of Nyabushabi Cell, Kyanamira Sub-county in Kabale District, was found dead and abandoned in the compound of Nyakijumba Catholic Church.
The body was discovered on the morning of November 30, 2025, at around 9:00 a.m.
According to police, the scene was visited, processed, and documented. When a sniffer dog was introduced, it led investigators to the home of the deceased’s alleged lover, whose house neighbours the church. The suspect is currently on the run.
Police say there were clear drag marks on the ground leading from the suspect’s house to the church compound, indicating that Patricia may have died inside the house, which is being treated as the primary scene.
A search inside the house yielded pieces of a mattress and blanket soaked with suspected bodily fluids. The items were recovered and exhibited for forensic analysis.
“It was also observed that the body could have spent about three days inside the house before it was dragged and abandoned at the church compound early this morning,” Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate said.
The body was retrieved and taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem.
Maate said efforts to track down the suspect and have him assist with investigations are ongoing.
