IRAN - In a bold act of defiance, an Iranian university student publicly stripped to her underwear to protest Iran’s strict hijab laws, condemning the enforcement of restrictive dress codes on women. The incident, which took place at a prominent university in Iran, is seen as a challenge to the authority of Iran's leadership, led by 85-year-old Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Witnesses report that the student, shortly after her protest, was forcefully detained by Iran's Morality Police, and has not been seen since. Reports indicate that she was beaten during the arrest.

The incident has ignited global shock and sparked discussions on social media. Ruan Ruli, a citizen, voiced her outrage on X, describing the treatment of women based on their attire as “a reflection of the unfair and arbitrary control over individual freedom,” emphasizing that “clothing does not define a person’s character.” Another user, Anshu Kushwaha, from India, highlighted the significance of democracy, attributing it to the influence of diverse beliefs, including Hinduism in India.
This event adds to a growing wave of resistance in Iran, where women have increasingly challenged the compulsory hijab and other gender-specific restrictions. The protest image, now widely circulated, has become a symbol of Iranian women’s deep frustration with state-imposed dress codes and their fight for personal freedom.
