KAMPALA

Three senior administrators of Iganga Technical Institute have been charged and remanded to prison over their alleged involvement in a fraudulent scheme that led to the loss of nearly UGX 1 billion.
The suspects werearraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

The accused are Eliachu David, the Principal; Wabwire Benedict, the Deputy Principal; and Ajuna Damali, the Senior Accounts Assistant and Bursar.
They face multiple charges, including abuse of office, embezzlement, and forgery. The court remanded them until March 31, 2026.

Prosecution alleges that between 2024 and 2025, the trio used their positions to bypass established procurement procedures for personal gain. They are accused of orchestrating a fraudulent scheme that resulted in the loss of UGX 983,480,000 from the government institution.

According to investigators, the officials authorised payments to Basaam General Merchandise and Supplies Ltd under the false pretext that the company had supplied food items to the institute.

However, inquiries revealed that no such supplies were ever delivered. The company in question reportedly confirmed to investigators that it had not conducted any transactions involving the delivery of food items to the institute.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about financial mismanagement and abuse of office in public institutions. Proceedings will resume on March 31, 2026.
