St George’s Ibanda Primary Teachers’ College (PTC) has been named the host of this year’s edition of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ankole Zone Games. The Ibanda Municipality–based institution will host both Ball Games I and the boys’ football finals, scheduled to take place between April 8 and 19.

The naming of Ibanda as the host of this year’s games follows a zonal executive meeting held on Wednesday in Mbarara. “This is to inform you that today, during the EXCOM meeting, we passed that this year’s games will be hosted by St George’s PTC Ibanda and will take place between April 8–12 for Ball Games I and April 15–19 for boys’ football,” stated the committee General Secretary, Obed Natweta.

This will be the third time in just four years that Ibanda is hosting the games, which committee chairman Egidio Mucunguzi attributes to the availability of enough playing grounds and ample accommodation space for athletes. “Our games have grown bigger because they now attract many teams and athletes, and we therefore have to look at places with enough nearby playing facilities and sufficient accommodation for our athletes. This is the reason we have looked at Ibanda again for this year’s games,” said Mucunguzi.

Ankole Zone schools mainly take part in girls’ football, basketball, hockey, tennis, and rugby under Ball Games I, followed by boys’ football.
Boni Consilii and St Kagwa Bushenyi High School are the reigning girls’ and boys’ football champions respectively, and will be the teams to beat in Ibanda.
