Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after appearing before Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on multiple rape and sexual assault charges. The 32-year-old Ghanaian international is facing five counts of rape involving two women, and one count of sexual assault involving a third woman. The alleged offences reportedly occurred between 2021 and 2022, during his time at Arsenal.
Partey was formally charged on July 4, just four days after his contract with Arsenal expired at the end of June.

In court, Partey stood silently as the charges were read out. He did not enter any pleas. His lawyer, Jenny Wiltshire, said the player “denies all the charges” and looks forward to “clearing his name.”
As part of his bail conditions, Partey must not contact the complainants and must inform the police of any international travel or change of address.

Thomas Partey played for Arsenal until June 30, 2025 when his contract ended

During court proceedings, Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring acknowledged reports linking Partey to a move to La Liga side Villarreal, saying: “I understand he’s no longer employed in this country and is now playing in Spain.” He is scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey on September 2.

Meanwhile, the group Arsenal Supporters Against Sexual Violence has criticised the club’s handling of the matter.
Spokesperson Honor Barber told the PA news agency: “We never wanted to be in a situation where the club we love fielded a player facing serious allegations. We protested outside nearly every home game last season to break the wall of silence.”

The group has demanded that Arsenal publish its sexual violence policies, suspend players under investigation, and support survivors. Police confirmed that the first complaint against Partey was filed in February 2022.
Partey joined Arsenal in October 2020 from Atlético Madrid for £45 million. He made 167 appearances, scoring nine goals. He has also earned 51 caps for the Ghana national team.

An Arsenal spokesperson stated: “The player’s contract ended on June 30. Due to ongoing legal proceedings, the club cannot comment on the matter.”
