Police in the East Kyoga Region have arrested eleven suspects in connection with the aggravated robbery and fatal shooting of businesswoman Kokunda Patricia in Soroti City earlier this month.
The 36-year-old mobile money operator was gunned down in the early hours of April 3, 2026, near Goalman Supermarket along Station Road. According to police, the attack occurred at about 4:40 a.m. when armed assailants waylaid her, shot her, and fled with her handbag containing cash and other valuables.

East Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson confirmed that swift response and intelligence-led operations led to the breakthrough. The number of arrests rose from an initial four suspects to eleven following expanded operations across Soroti City and the districts of Amuria, Kalaki, and Abim.

The suspects include:

  • Epeu Simon, alias Iboda – suspected of pulling the victim out of her vehicle.
  • Emenyu David, alias Ogwang Sam or Olipong – believed to be the gunman.
  • Okello Emmanuel, alias Imorning – described as one of the key planners.
  • Eyamu Rashid, alias Odekuro – alleged to have initiated the robbery plan.
  • Elacu Alfred and his wife Akello Hellen – suspected of supplying ammunition.
  • Okello Alex, Ojele Jorem (alias Jogo), Elwanu Julius, Onebo Felix, and Akello Salume (reportedly the wife of the suspected shooter).

Police say several exhibits linked to the crime have been recovered, including a rifle believed to have been used in the shooting, ammunition, clothing allegedly worn during the attack, a red motorcycle without a number plate, and a Tecno phone belonging to the deceased.
Authorities also recovered Shs 10.5 million in cash — part of the estimated Shs 28 million stolen during the robbery.

Investigations are ongoing to track down any remaining suspects and dismantle what police describe as an organised criminal network behind the attack.

The public has been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious information that could assist ongoing investigations to the nearest police station.
