KAMPALA

Businessman Nuwagaba Vincent has been charged before the Anti-Corruption Court with impersonating a public official, corruption and demanding money by menace.

Nuwagaba was arraigned on Thursday by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). He was remanded until September 29, 2026.
Prosecution alleges that in August 2026, Nuwagaba, while at various locations in Mpigi and Kampala, solicited Shs500 million from a director of Double Q Company Ltd, a Chinese-owned company involved in vehicle assembly.

According to the prosecution, Nuwagaba allegedly impersonated an official from the Ministry of Water and Environment and falsely claimed that the company was degrading a wetland at Nakirebe in Mpigi District.
Investigators allege that Nuwagaba demanded the money, claiming that he could help the company's directors prevent or frustrate action by relevant authorities to stop their activities at the site.

It is further alleged that Nuwagaba worked with individuals purported to be officials from the Ministry of Water and Environment and Mpigi Magistrate's Court to put pressure on the victims to pay the money.
The State House Anti-Corruption Unit said investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals allegedly involved in the scheme.
