Residents Advised to Stay Indoors
Witnesses reported heavy gunfire that could be heard as far as Fort Portal. Residents of Kasese Municipality were advised to remain indoors as security forces sealed off affected areas, including the police barracks and surrounding streets. One of the suspected assailants was found dead in the compound of Grace Cathedral, near the police barracks, where police have since cordoned off the crime scene. A temporary shelter (“manyata”) within the barracks was set ablaze during the attack, eyewitnesses said.
