Police in Kabale are investigating the electrocution of a 50-year-old electrician identified only as Gilbert, commonly known as Engineer, a resident of Bugongi, Southern Ward, Southern Division, Kabale Municipality.
The incident occurred on 19 November 2025 at around 4:00pm at the home of Akahurira Catherine, 34, an assistant administrator at the Kabale Chief Magistrate’s Court, located in Karugashe Cell, Butobere Ward, Central Division.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate said preliminary information indicates that Akahurira called Gilbert “to come and fix a faulty socket inside her bedroom.”
“At the time he started working, electricity had gone off, so the lady used her phone to light for him,” Maate said.

He added that power was restored while Gilbert was still fixing the socket. “When the bulb came on, Akahurira alerted him, but he insisted that he knew what he was doing since he was used to the work,” Maate explained.
Moments later, Akahurira reportedly noticed Gilbert seated on the floor, unresponsive. “She saw him urinating on himself and gassing. She called him but he did not respond,” Maate said.
She alerted her landlord, and together with neighbours, they rushed the electrician to Dr. Anguyo’s Clinic, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
“The matter was reported at Kabale Central Police Station. Our officers visited, examined, and documented the scene. Witness statements were recorded and a postmortem was conducted,” Maate said.
Police are continuing investigations to establish the exact circumstances that led to the fatal electrocution.
