Forty upcoming football coaches from the Western region successfully trained and qualified at the introductory level of football coaching under CAF standards, after completing a seven-day training at Global High School in Mbarara over the weekend.

The trainees, who included only three females with the rest being males, underwent an intensive week of training under the guidance of CAF Level One instructor Lydia Nabakoza, who acknowledged that the program was a success. “The trainees were taken through the basic steps of handling young players, and what interested them most was the session plan, which they were experiencing for the first time. I am sure they are going to do a great job with their school and academy teams,” Nabakoza said.

James Mutebi, also known as Munamasaka, a sports journalist attending a coaching course for the first time but already guiding Mina High School’s football team in the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Ankole Zone boys’ football campaigns, said the training has given him greater clarity on how to proceed.
“I am thankful to the organisers—FUFA and the Western Region Football Association—because attending this course has broadened my knowledge of football coaching, especially in handling teenage players and young talents. I am very sure this will help me guide my school team to greater heights this coming season,” Mutebi said.

The course is one of the deliberate programs by the local football governing body, FUFA, implemented through regional structures across the country to strengthen football coaching and training at all levels, with the aim of increasing technical capacity and supporting the game’s overall development.
