The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on Tuesday arrived in Beijing, China, for a series of high-level military engagements.
On Wednesday, the CDF and his delegation visited the China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation (CATIC), a state-owned defence company specializing in aviation products and technology. They were taken on a guided tour showcasing cutting-edge aviation equipment, led by the company’s Vice President.
During his official visit, Gen Kainerugaba is expected to attend a military conference alongside counterparts from various countries and hold bilateral talks with his Chinese counterpart, among other meetings. He was received at the airport by senior Chinese military generals and officers.
The CDF’s delegation includes Maj Gen Dan Kakono, Commander of the Artillery Division, and Maj Gen Felix Busizoori, Commander of the 4th Division. Uganda and China have long maintained strong military and bilateral ties, with cooperation in areas such as training, peace support operations, and defence technology. This visit builds on those historic relations, established in 1986.
Since assuming the role of CDF, Gen Kainerugaba has actively pursued closer military cooperation with Uganda’s allies, making official visits to Russia, Rwanda, Algeria, Mozambique, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In Kampala, he has also held high-level meetings with military representatives from France, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
