Bukedea - The USSSA Ball Games I climaxed on Tuesday at the hosting school, Bukedea Progressive, with thrilling finals across several disciplines.
Notable performers included Boni Consilii Girls, Isingiro, who reached the podium for the first time after clinching a bronze medal for finishing third in the girls’ football category.
The Isingiro-based side, which also holds the national U16 girls’ football title, beat record national champions Kawempe Muslim 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

It was the first time in ten years that a school from Ankole reached this level. The last instance was in 2015, when Citizen High School won silver after losing 3-2 to Kawempe Muslim in a tournament hosted by Mbarara High School.
"We are grateful to the Almighty for guiding us through. We came prepared to improve on last year’s performance, and we did by reaching the semi-finals. Although we lost there, we did not give up. We fought for the third-place play-off, and now we have a bronze," said team manager Primus Ngabirano.
The girls’ football title was won by St. Noa Girls’ School, who defeated home side Amus College 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. In a historic moment, Mbarara High School registered their best-ever performance by defeating arch-rivals Ntare School 2-0 in an all-Ankole boys’ hockey final, winning the title for the first time in the school’s history.
In rugby, King’s College Budo retained the boys’ title after coming from behind to edge Namilyango College 14-13 in a tense final, while the girls’ title went to Nkoma SS, who beat 2022 champions Air Force Entebbe 22-0.
It was Kibuli SS that emerged as the most decorated school, winning five accolades: both boys' and girls' table tennis, tennis, and boys' badminton.
In basketball, Amus College won the boys' title, while St. Noa Girls’ School beat record winners St. Mary’s Kitende to take the girls’ title.
Hosts Bukedea Comprehensive School dominated in volleyball U16, winning both boys’ and girls’ titles, while Madina Islamic claimed the netball U16 title, and Ntare School triumphed in the boys’ U16 handball category.
The best teams will represent Uganda at the FEASSA Games to be held in Kakamega, Kenya, this August.
