The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) will be experimenting with a new league format in the Kampala Region League, one of the third-division leagues in Uganda.
This comes after the decision to implement the format in the top tier — the Uganda Premier League (UPL) — was rescinded last week following nationwide fan outcry and criticism from Vipers SC officials.
FUFA President Announces suspension of 2025–2026 SUPL format
According to arrangements with the Kampala Regional Football Association (KRFA), the league will kick off in the week of October 28 to November 2, with the 18 clubs playing each other once in the opening round — a total of 17 matches per club. Just as it was planned for the UPL, the table will, after that round, be split in two — the top nine teams battling to break into the top six, and the bottom nine fighting to avoid relegation.
In the final round, the league will divide again into three groups of six:

During a meeting held on Tuesday with club officials from the Kampala region, FUFA announced that it will cater for referees’ allowances — UGX 100,000 per game in rounds one and two, and UGX 200,000 in the final round.
The Man of the Match award will also increase from UGX 50,000 in round one to UGX 200,000 in round three. Each club will receive 20 match balls, and up to 50 matches will be televised from key grounds including Kyambogo, Mutesa II Stadium, Lugogo, Nsambya, Kira Road, and Kadiba, with double-header match days. Club officials were also informed about the UGX 130 million prize fund up for grabs. A team that dominates all three rounds could earn up to UGX 20 million, while even the lowest-placed sides will not go home empty-handed.
Clubs will also receive UGX 8 million per season in financial support, and players will begin earning locker-room bonuses starting in round two — UGX 20,000 per win, rising to UGX 50,000 in round three.
