Northern Uganda
Kenneth Omona, the State Minister for Northern Uganda Rehabilitation Affairs, has accused some security personnel of allegedly collaborating with Balaalo herdsmen in the illegal grabbing of land in Greater Northern Uganda. Omona raised the concern while addressing ongoing disputes linked to land ownership and settlement patterns involving pastoral communities. He said there are growing reports indicating that some security officers, instead of enforcing the law, are allegedly aiding or protecting individuals involved in questionable land acquisitions.
The minister warned that such actions, if proven, threaten to undermine government efforts aimed at restoring order and protecting communities affected by land-related conflicts. He emphasized that the situation is worsening tensions between local residents and cattle keepers in several districts.
Omona called for immediate investigations into the allegations, urging security agencies to remain neutral and uphold the law in all land-related matters. He stressed that accountability is necessary to rebuild public trust and ensure stability in the region.
The issue of land occupation involving Balaalo herdsmen has remained a sensitive topic in Northern Uganda, with local leaders repeatedly calling for stronger enforcement mechanisms and clearer regulation of pastoral movements to prevent further conflicts.
