Police in Sheema District are investigating a suspected murder following the discovery of a man's body in a banana plantation in Nyamirima Cell, Kashozi East Ward, Kashozi Division, Sheema Municipality.
The deceased has been identified as Mwebaze Asanansio, an adult male and a Munyankore by tribe. His body was discovered on the morning of Thursday, 15th May 2025, prompting a swift response from local police around 9:00 AM.
Preliminary reports from residents and relatives suggest that Mwebaze may have been killed by his biological son, who is currently on the run. However, police have withheld the suspect’s identity at this stage.
“We are handling this matter with utmost sensitivity and care. Revealing the suspect’s identity now could compromise our investigations,” said SP Apollo Tayebwa, the Greater Bushenyi Regional Police Spokesperson.
A team from the Sheema Homicide Department, together with the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO), visited the scene, documented evidence, and transported the body to Shuuku Health Centre IV mortuary for a postmortem examination.
SP Tayebwa confirmed the incident and added: “We appeal to the public to share any information that could lead to the arrest and successful prosecution of those responsible. Community cooperation is vital in solving such crimes.” This case adds to a growing list of murder incidents in the Greater Bushenyi region since the beginning of the year.
Notable murder cases in the region include:
March 17, 2025: Anitah Nsimenta, a 25-year-old businesswoman, was found murdered in her home in Rushoroza Cell, Kabwohe Division. “The suspect, a boda boda rider and her neighbor, is still being pursued,” police said.

March 24, 2025: Osbert Runwa, 50, was murdered in Bikungu Village, Mitooma District. “He had sustained injuries to the head, arms, and legs, indicating a brutal assault,” police reported.
April 21, 2025: Police arrested two additional suspects in connection with the murder of 72-year-old retired teacher Godfrey Nyehangane Tabandama.
“The total number of suspects in this case is now five,” SP Tayebwa noted.
January 29, 2025: Diphas Arinda, 21, was found dead at the home of his girlfriend, Provia Ashabahebwa.
“She allegedly used a hoe to strike him on the head,” police reported.
These cases underscore a troubling surge in violent crimes in the region. Authorities continue to urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior. “We are committed to ensuring justice for the victims and their families,” SP Tayebwa emphasized.
