Established in 1925, Athletics Uganda has had an illustrious journey, producing world-class talent that has excelled on both junior and senior global stages. The late John Akii-Bua’s historic gold in the 400m hurdles at the 1972 Munich Olympics and Davis Kamoga’s bronze in the 400m at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics stand out as key milestones in the federation’s history.

Other notable Ugandan athletes who have contributed to this rich legacy include Boniface Kiprop, Moses Kipsiro, Docus Inzikuru, Stephen Kiprotich, Peruth Chemutai, Halima Nakaayi, Jacob Kiplimo, and Joshua Cheptegei—whose international achievements continue to elevate Uganda’s profile in athletics. These centenary celebrations aim not only to honor the past but also to inspire a new generation of athletes to carry the torch forward.
