The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) has rescheduled the girls football segment of ball games I, which did not complete at the national competitions that were held at Ndejje SS in Luwero district last month (May), to June 18-21 at Ndejje University grounds.

The championship that pits schools from all then 19 USSSA zones across the country competing in sports disciplines of basketball, girls football, rugby 15s, racket games (table tennis, badminton and tennis) and hockey saw the girls’ football halted at the quarterfinal stage.

The decision to halt the girls football was due to the national U17 Teen Cranes’ world cup qualifier against Zambia where 5 of the 8 teams, had several players summoned to the team with Kawempe Moslem (8) and Amus College (7) having the most numbers of selected players.

And from the USSSA CEO Chris Mugisha’s notification to the school teams on Tuesday evening, the resumption of the event has been rescheduled to June Tuesday June 18-Friday June 21 at Ndejje University and Standard High Zzana grounds both in Luwero.

And because the teams had cleared all the requirements regarding participation in the event that was later halted, Mugisha says the association will cater for all the meals and accommodation of the athletes.

“The 8 teams had all paid their participation fees and therefore they won’t pay anything again, the association will cater for their welfare in terms of accommodation and feeding,” He said.

A Rines player (pupple) battles St Noah in the USSSA girls football. The two will be vying for a semifinal slot in the rescheduled championship.

According to the program, the teams will be arriving at the hosting venue on Tuesday June 18 and all undergo screening before the competition kicks off the next day.

Defending champions Amus College will take on Sacred Heart Gulu in the first game at 09:00am before record winners Kawempe Moslem meet Uganda Martyrs 11:00am, later Sheema Girls will play Rines SS at 02:00pm with quarterfinal debutants Boni Consilii Isingiro taking on St Noa in the last game at 04:00pm.

The semifinalists will not only be vying for the coveted accolade but also will qualify to represent Uganda at this year’s edition of the FEASSA games due at Bukedea Comprehensive School in August.
