Sheema District Woman Member of Parliament aspirant Jacklet Rwabukurukuru Atuhaire has pledged to prioritise improving household incomes if elected in the 2026 general elections.
Jacklet, a former Human Rights Commissioner and Sheema Woman MP in the 10th Parliament, made the pledge while addressing supporters in Kashenyi I and II, Runyinya Parish, Kigarama Sub-county.
She said several community economic empowerment projects she initiated seven years ago—including soap making, craft production, and soya bean farming—stalled after she lost the 2021 election to Rosemary Nyakikongoro.
"Some of the projects I started could not be sustained because I was not re-elected in 2021," she told supporters. "I want to revive and expand these initiatives so that families can earn better incomes."
Jacklet also promised to push for the long-awaited tarmacking of the Kabwohe–Masheruka–Bwizibwera–Nsiika road, saying the project had already been budgeted for during her tenure but failed to take off.
"During my tenure, the road was included in the budget, but due to lack of follow-up the construction has not commenced," she said. "Once elected, I will ensure this road finally becomes a reality."
Several residents hailed her for her past efforts to uplift household livelihoods.
Jackson Tubesigwa and Jenipher Tweheyo from Rwentuha I and II said Jacklet’s support had helped many families engage in productive farming. "She gave us hoes at a time when many households were struggling," Tubesigwa said. "People have been able to farm and earn a living because of her."
Tweheyo added: "She has always stood with the local people. That’s why she still has our support."
Jacklet, who did not participate in the NRM primaries, is contesting as an independent candidate. She is competing against three others: the NRM flag bearer Adrine Katusiime Mwebesa, Doreen Ninsiima of the PFF, and Hellen Kabami, an independent.
