BUSHENYI
Bushenyi District, in collaboration with the Initiative for Better Health (IBH), officially launched the “EMPUUMO MARATHON” today as a key preparatory event for hosting the National World AIDS Day 2025 celebrations.
The marathon is scheduled for Sunday, November 30, 2025, starting in Kizinda Town Council.
Operating under the theme “Building a Sustainable HIV Response to End HIV/AIDS as a Public Health Threat,” the event aims to significantly raise public awareness and rally community vigor in the fight against HIV.

The launch function, held at the Bushenyi district headquarters, highlighted the urgency of local action. Bushenyi currently faces an HIV prevalence rate of 8%, ranking it as the third-highest rate in the Ankole sub-region. District officials emphasized that the marathon embodies the “EMPUUMO” (meaning “energy” or “vigor”) spirit—a communal effort to “run for life, hope, and a healthier future.”
Speakers at the launch expressed high expectations for the event, anticipating thousands of participants from Bushenyi and neighboring areas to join the run.
