BUSHENYI
Bushenyi District Local Government staff on Thursday hosted a prayer breakfast at the district headquarters to celebrate the successful conclusion of the 2025/26 financial year and offer thanksgiving.
The event, organised by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Ms. Sanyu Phionah, in conjunction with district leaders and staff, also served as a precursor to the upcoming visit of the Archbishop of Mbarara, the Most Rev. Lambert Bainomugisha, to Kitabi Parish on July 12, 2026.
During the prayer breakfast held at the District Council Hall, the local government leadership handed over UGX 10.5 million towards projects under the Archdiocese of Mbarara Development Foundation (AMDEF). The contribution comprised UGX 9.2 million raised by Bushenyi District Local Government staff and UGX 1.3 million contributed by staff of Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipal Council.
The funds were officially presented by the CAO, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), and the District Chairperson to the St. Kaggwa Deanery Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Evarist Mutambi.
Rev. Fr. Mutambi led the thanksgiving Mass together with Rev. Fr. Ellypidious Bainobuganzi, Rev. Fr. Hillary Katusiime, and other clergy from Kitabi Parish.
According to the organisers, the Mass was intended to build momentum ahead of the main AMDEF fundraising function scheduled for July 12, where the Minister of Water and Environment, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Kahinda Otafiire, is expected to attend as chief guest.
In a demonstration of ecumenical solidarity, the district technical staff also raised and contributed an additional UGX 3 million towards the ongoing renovation and construction works at West Ankole Anglican Cathedral on Bweranyangi Hill.
The donation was received by Ven. Canon Arthur Atwiine, who represented the Bishop of West Ankole Diocese, Rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni, at the breakfast meeting.
