Police in Rukiga District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 17-year-old student, Edward Mugarura of Kihanga Secondary School, whose body was found dumped along a road in Nyakatugunda Village, Nyarurambi Parish, Rwamucucu Sub-county.
According to police, the body was discovered on December 17, 2025, lying by the roadside, prompting the Officer in Charge of Mparo Police Station to alert Rukiga Central Police Station.
“It is alleged that on December 16, 2025, at around 10:00 pm, the deceased was drinking alcohol with friends at a bar belonging to one Ampumuza Gerald in Sindi Ward, Mparo Town Council,” said the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, Mr Elly Maate.

Mr Maate explained that when it was time for the deceased to leave the bar, “he was reportedly followed by some boys, known to the bar attendant, who were riding a motorcycle and smoking cigarettes.”

He said the body was discovered the following morning at around 9:00 am.
“The scene was visited, processed, and documented by police. Upon examination, the body was found to have bruises on the back and a swollen head, indicating signs of assault,” Mr Maate said.

Police further deployed a canine unit from Kabale, which picked up a scent from the scene.
“The police dog tracked the scent for approximately two kilometres, leading investigators back to the bar of Ampumuza Gerald,” he added.

As part of the ongoing investigations, police arrested seven people, including the bar owner and attendants, to assist with inquiries.
“The body was retrieved from the scene and conveyed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination as investigations continue,” Mr Maate said.

Police have appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate with investigators as inquiries into the suspected murder continue.
