The former contestant for the Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality parliamentary seat, Kenneth Akandahura Mugooha has been linked to accusations of defiling a 16-year-old girl and subsequently aiding abortion, Bushenyi Greater Police spokesperson SSP. Martial Tumusiime has said.
Tumusiime said Mugooha, 35, is wanted by authorities, having forced the victim to abort, which failed.
“When he found out the girl was pregnant, he forced her to abortion, a process that failed, consequently damaging her reproductive system’’, he stated.
Mugooha is a resident of Kyeitembe East ward, Central division in Bushenyi Ishaka municipality.
It's alleged that in November 2023, while working as a house maid at Mugooha’s home, the victim was forced into unprotected sex and later threatened not to tell anybody.
At the time of the incident, the wife of the suspect had been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
“He sent me to his bedroom to bring a flat iron and came following me, locked the door and forced himself on me,’’ narrated the victim, adding that, ‘’I tried to cry for help but he touched my mouth to prevent me from making noise”.

After some time, the victim was taken for examination by her aunt and caretaker Monica Kanyegamo, and it was discovered that she was pregnant.
Kenyegamo, said the suspect was informed and instead requested the victim to go back home so that they could confirm the pregnancy through another test, which the victim agreed to.
On reaching home, they took her to a clinic and instead subjected her to abortion in February 2024.
SP Mary Mukago, the community liaison officer at Bushenyi regional police, said the victim was examined on PF3A at Bushenyi Police Health Centre II and was later referred to Bushenyi Health Centre IV for further examination.
“The girl’s health is not well, based on the fact that she is battling Fistula as a result”, Mukago said.
She condemned the act, saying it shouldn’t have been such a high-profile person to break the pride of a juvenile. “I thought he would bear the costs involved whatsoever, but he is in hiding and doesn’t pick up phone calls from any of the victim’s relatives. This is a shame”, Mukago pointed out.
A case of defilement and aiding abortion has been filed against Mugooha under reference; SD REF 23/12/04/2024 at Bushenyi regional police station, pending arrest of the suspect.
