Police in Bushenyi District are hunting for assailants who raped a 40-year-old woman before murdering her. Martial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Region police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, which happened on February 17, 2025, at an unknown time in Ekikorijo Village, Nyeibingo Parish, Ruhumuro Subcounty, Bushenyi District. The deceased has been identified as Kembabazi Jenifer, 40, a resident of Nyakatete Village, Ruhumuro Subcounty.
It is reported that on February 17, 2025, at about 2 p.m., four children had gone to collect firewood from Bakyindaho Solomon's eucalyptus forest when they discovered the body of an unidentified female adult. They informed their mother, Katushabe, who, upon confirming the incident, alerted the LC1 chairperson, who later reported the matter to the police. The deceased was the wife of Kasasira Yonoka, a resident of Nyakatete. He told the police that his wife had left home on February 16, 2025, saying she was going to visit her parents in Kayanga to check on her food crops. However, he was later informed that her lifeless body had been discovered, half-dressed, in the eucalyptus forest.
According to preliminary police investigations, a weaving needle was found near the deceased's body, along with a knife, which the assailants may have used in the murder. Martial stated that the deceased's body was examined by the scene of crime officers, and semen droplets were found on her thighs, indicating that she may have been raped. He added that a sniffer dog was introduced at the crime scene but lost the trail after about one kilometer.
The body of the deceased was taken to Kyabugimbi Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination.
