Military officials from Uganda and Rwanda have convened in Mbarara City for a three-day meeting aimed at strengthening border security and combating transnational crime. This high-level engagement, beginning today, brings together senior commanders from the Uganda Peoples' Defence Force (UPDF) and the Rwanda Defense Force (RDF). The primary goal of the meeting is to enhance collaboration between the two nations' armed forces and develop effective strategies to address security challenges along their shared border. The discussions focus on promoting prosperity for border communities and fostering regional stability.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Nelson Nshangabashija, Chairperson of the Kabale District, emphasized the importance of continued cooperation and mutual support in safeguarding the common interests of both nations. "The good relations between our two nations are reflected in increased interaction between the people of Uganda and Rwanda, particularly through communication and trade," he said.
The meeting, held at Les Vegas Gardens Hotel in Mbarara City, includes participation from Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Shillingi, the Uganda Defence Advisor to Rwanda; Col. Emmanuel Luzindana, the Rwanda Defence Advisor to Uganda; and Intelligence Officers and Proximity Commanders at both Operational and Tactical levels.
