Rubirizi
The General Manager of Jubilee SACCO West Ankole Diocese, Ronald Mugisha, has urged residents of Rubirizi to adopt a consistent saving culture and invest in share capital to strengthen both the institution’s development and their own financial independence.
Speaking during the regional pre-AGM meeting for the Katerera branch held at Katerera Playground, Mugisha emphasized that embracing a saving culture is a key tool in fighting poverty, hunger, and domestic violence.
“Embracing a saving culture enables individuals to live in an economically empowered society and ultimately achieve their goals,” Mugisha said.
He expressed gratitude to members for their continued support and pledged his commitment, alongside his staff, to steer the SACCO toward sustainable growth.
“I am committed to doubling our efforts to achieve our 2026 targets and steer Jubilee SACCO toward sustainable progress through income-generating projects,” he added.
Mugisha highlighted several milestones achieved by the SACCO, including a membership of 20,500 people, total savings of Shs11 billion, and share capital of Shs4.34 billion. The SACCO also has a total loan portfolio of Shs14.3 billion, a net surplus of Shs715 million, total assets worth Shs17.6 billion, and cumulative loan disbursements amounting to Shs22.68 billion.
However, he noted that external factors such as general elections created liquidity challenges that slowed down savings and loan disbursement.
“Despite these challenges, the SACCO continues to offer quality and affordable financial products and services that support sustainable development among our members,” he said.
The Chairperson of Jubilee SACCO West Ankole Diocese, Aggrey Agaba, commended members for their resilience and hard work throughout 2025, while acknowledging key challenges affecting the institution.
“The SACCO faces challenges such as multiple borrowing, price fluctuations, slow court processes, limited funds, and loan defaults,” Agaba explained. “This increases the cost of loan recovery through legal expenses and raises loan provisioning costs, which negatively affects our profitability.”
Katerera Branch Manager Barbra Atukwase thanked the Rubirizi community for their trust and pledged to uphold high standards of management.
“I promise members proper accountability and transparency by strengthening our internal control systems,” she said.
Atukwase also highlighted the SACCO’s shift towards green financing to promote environmental conservation, noting progress in waste management and clean energy initiatives.
She further encouraged parents to involve their children in financial planning early.
“I urge parents to open accounts for their children and encourage them to start saving early as a way of securing their future,” she said.
The regional meeting serves as a precursor to the main Annual General Meeting (AGM), where delegates will convene to review the SACCO’s performance and discuss its future strategic direction.
