Hon. Zedriga, the Acting President of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has directed all idle party foot soldiers to stop loitering at the party’s headquarters in Makerere Kavule, Kawempe Division.
According to sources within the party, Zedriga issued the directive because she needs a conducive working environment to effectively execute her duties and those assigned by the party leader.
“Time for politics is over. Everyone should go back to work for a living. We don’t have money here to give you,” a source quoted her as saying.
Since assuming the top leadership role at the party, Hon. Zedriga has repeatedly complained about the indiscipline exhibited by some foot soldiers at the headquarters. She has also been summoning newly elected Members of Parliament, district councilors, and other leaders at various levels for meetings.
However, sources claim that several of these leaders have reported being harassed and mishandled by some foot soldiers outside the party offices. The supporters are allegedly demanding money and other favors from the leaders without respect.
Zedriga is said to have made it clear that only individuals with official assignments — particularly those providing security — will be allowed at the headquarters moving forward.
The move is seen as part of efforts by the new acting leadership to restore order and discipline within the opposition party following the recently concluded general elections.
This development comes at a time when NUP is reorganizing itself as it prepares for the next phase of opposition politics in the 12th Parliament.
