RUBIRIZI
Katunguru Health Centre III has been officially recognized as the top-performing and most improved health facility in Rubirizi District for its exceptional service delivery throughout 2025. The facility was honored yesterday during a ceremony held at its headquarters, where staff members were awarded certificates and gifts as a token of appreciation for their dedication.
Dr. Aidah Nankyenga, the Rubirizi District Health Officer, noted that such recognitions are aimed at motivating continued excellence and improving leadership skills among health workers. She further promised to organize more workshops to help staff maintain and elevate their professional standards.

James Mbusa, the Health In-charge at Katunguru Health Centre III, attributed the milestone to a culture of teamwork, discipline, commitment, and professionalism. He explained that despite Katunguru Sub-county being a relatively wealthy area, health workers had to partner closely with local leaders to mobilize residents—particularly fishermen and traders—to prioritize their well-being and utilize government health services.
“We pledge to keep improving service delivery to our patients,” Mbusa stated.

This sentiment was echoed by Justus Mpola, one of the recognized staff members, who thanked the government and the District Health Department for building their capacity. Mpola highlighted that the facility's success is rooted in time management, open communication, and extensive community outreach that educates residents on disease prevention.
The facility’s impact is reflected in its current statistics. It now manages over 75 HIV-positive patients monthly, admits more than 30 patients, and delivers over five babies per week. However, staff noted that challenges remain, including a persistent segment of the fishing and trading community that avoids seeking treatment, often due to a lingering negative image caused by past cases of poor staff attitudes.

Health workers urged the community to trust the revamped facility and seek early care. Gonzaga Kabagambe, the Chairperson of Katunguru Village, thanked the government for bringing services closer to the people living around Lake Edward and Lake George, who frequently face water-related illnesses and accidents. While expressing gratitude for the improved services, he called on the government to expand the facility's infrastructure to accommodate the growing demand from the local population.
