Police in Ntungamo District have arrested a 36-year-old agricultural officer in connection with the murder of his wife in Rwenanura Town Council.
The suspect, identified as Tayebwa Rodgers, an agricultural officer attached to Rukoni and Rwoho Town Councils, was apprehended following the death of his wife, Akampurira Racheal, 33, who was serving as the Town Agent of Rukiga Central Ward in Mpora Town Council, Rukiga District.
According to police, the incident occurred on February 9, 2026, at around 10:30pm at Omungyenyi Katinda Bridge in Kyamugashe, Rwemiyaga Ward, Kakukuru, Rwenanura Town Council.
It is alleged that the couple was riding on a motorcycle heading to Rubaare Town Council when they were attacked by unknown assailants armed with sticks. Racheal was reportedly beaten to death during the attack, while her husband allegedly escaped to seek help. In his initial report to police, Tayebwa claimed that the attackers also robbed them of the motorcycle and other property.
Police officers responded to the scene and recovered the deceased’s body from underneath the bridge culverts. The body was later transported to Itojo Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
However, according to the Rwizi Regional Police spokesperson, SP Samson Kasasira, preliminary investigations raised questions about the husband’s account of events.
“During investigations, it was discovered that the couple had been experiencing domestic misunderstandings for some time. Upon examining the husband’s body, he had no visible injuries, contrary to his earlier claims,” SP Kasasira said.
Tayebwa has since been arrested to assist police with ongoing investigations into the possible circumstances surrounding his wife’s murder and the alleged robbery. Police say inquiries are still ongoing to establish the exact cause and motive behind the incident.
