The Ugandan teams have continued to post strong results and match their Kenyan counterparts at the ongoing FEASSA Games in Kakamega, Kenya, despite incidents of intimidation from unruly home fans. The hostile residents have crowded the playing fields in support of Kenyan teams, and on Sunday, one of the ugliest scenes in the 22-year history of the games occurred during the clash between Uganda’s St. Mary’s Kitende and Kenya’s St. Joseph Kitale.
With Kitende leading 2–1 and just five minutes left of normal time, rowdy fans attacked one of the assistant referees, beating him up and hurling objects onto the pitch, forcing an abrupt stoppage of the game.
Tournament officials have since awarded Kitende the victory in line with competition rules, placing the Ugandan side second in their group standings, just behind another Ugandan powerhouse, Bukedea Comprehensive School, with both teams on track for the semifinals.
Elsewhere, Ugandan schools have dominated other disciplines, recording straight wins in table tennis, chess, badminton, netball, lacrosse, beach volleyball, and tennis.
In boys’ volleyball, Bukedea Comprehensive, Namugongo Vocational, and Standard High Zzana have all advanced to the quarterfinals, boosting Uganda’s hopes of retaining the overall title.
However, Uganda has registered poor returns in rugby, hockey, and basketball 3x3, where Kenyan sides have taken clear command.
