Two lawyers, Mr. Mwanjuzi Bob and Mr. Kalamu Lawrence, have been charged and remanded to prison over their alleged involvement in a fraudulent scheme amounting to UGX 917 million. The accused were today afternoon arraigned before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrates' Court following a joint operation by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Criminal Investigations Directorate, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. They face multiple charges, including forgery, conspiracy to commit a felony, and obtaining money by false pretenses.

According to the prosecution, on April 20, 2023, the suspects—together with others still at large—conspired to deceive and defraud by fabricating a false lease agreement dated the same day. The forged document purported that a lease had been signed between SEMA Holding Limited and Ephrata Investment Group Ltd, a claim that was later found to be untrue.
The accused allegedly used the falsified agreement to fraudulently obtain UGX 917 million from Kalpana Abe, the Managing Director of SEMA Holding Limited. The money was supposedly meant for investment in Ephrata Investment Group’s "Blackzone Recreation Center" project, located at Plot 3A Lugogo By-Pass, but the entire transaction turned out to be a scam.
The court ordered that the accused be remanded to prison until August 13, 2025, as investigations continue. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent real estate and investment schemes, especially those involving forged legal documents or unverifiable entities.
