Minister of state for Animal husbandry Bright Rwamirama has expressed disappointment with local leaders in Kiruhura district for their failure to adjust to the current change in transformation which he said has lagged them behind in terms of development.
The Minister's concern came at the inspection of a Sh.600m modern abattoir that was constructed by the Ministry of Agriculture, animal husbandry and Fisheries in Sanga town council which the local leaders and butcher men have failed to utilise, claiming its architectural plan was erroneous rendering it inefficient.

‘’It used to take us only thirty minutes to slaughter a cow, but with this that you call a modern abattoir, it took us one and a half hours to finish one cow. Therefore, this structure will not achieve maximum productivity to serve the intended purpose’’. Said Safari Mugyenyi, Mayor Sanga Town council.
He added that; ‘’This facility was designed to accommodate only cows without horns, so does it mean we shall not slaughter long horned ones?’’. He asked.
Wilson Kajwengye, the Nyabushozi county member of Parliament said, ‘’It is true these people need the abattoir with improved sanitation, but can they slaughter their cows faster than they used to do without it?’’. He asked.
He added that; There is no politics in this and therefore we need to be sincere and accept that if the facility is faulty, we see how to correct it’’.
In response, the minister noted that there was a lot of barbarism in the local leaders who have failed to transition from the traditional society setting.

‘’If you can’t accept that things have changed and you have to move with the change, development shall not wait for you’’. Said Rwamirama
‘’People here don’t want to learn because this facility has a lot of efficiency which these people don’t want to use’’. Noted Rwamirama who looked irritated.
The Minister instead opted for a training of some individuals who will help in the operationalisation of the facility, saying his ministry will avail funds and facilitate the exercise.
‘’The government put a lot of money here and we can’t sit back and see this money windswept’’. Rwamirama pointed out.

He highlighted the importance of the facility that is intended to generate income for the farmers and reduce the transportation burden to Kampala.
‘’Buyers would come here and carry a few cows on one lorry which takes a maximum of 20 cows but they will take up to 60 when slaughtering is done here’’. He explained.
Jovance Rwenduru, the Kiruhura district woman member of Parliament noted that meat production is the main income earner for Sanga and Kiruhura district at large, followed by milk and that therefore having a modern abattoir was a prudent government initiative.
Dan Mukago, the Kiruhura district chairman LC5, appreciated the government and ministry of Agriculture, for thinking about construction of a modern abattoir in the area.
