Mbarara City has selected 45 young athletes to represent the city at this year’s Uganda Primary Schools Sports Association (UPSSA) national ball games, scheduled to take place in Yumbe District from August 25 to September 5. The selection followed the Mbarara City Primary Schools Ball Games, held at Kakyeka Stadium, where the chosen athletes emerged as top performers.

According to Cleophas Musinguzi, the Senior City Sports Officer, the selected athletes are expected to attend a training camp two weeks before the team’s departure for Yumbe. “We organised a highly competitive city-level championship and are confident in the talent we’ve identified. We believe these teams will bring home accolades,” said Musinguzi.

The city-level competition was structured according to old division mappings, and Kakiika Division emerged dominant—winning 4 out of the 8 gold medals on offer. Kakiika claimed top positions in boys’ U12 and U14 volleyball and boys’ U14 football, the latter secured after a dramatic 5-4 penalty win over Nyamitanga, following a 1-1 draw in normal time.
