Renowned NBS Television journalist Canary Mugume has responded to a wave of allegations made by his wife, Sasha Ferguson, saying he too has endured domestic abuse and has been unfairly denied access to their children for nearly a year.
The controversy erupted after Sasha posted photos from their children’s birthday celebration—with Canary noticeably absent—which fueled widespread speculation about the couple’s relationship status. Some social media users questioned whether the pair had separated, while others went as far as casting doubt on the children’s paternity. Sasha dismissed the paternity rumours, insisting she had “never doubted the DNA,” but later released a series of emotional posts accusing Canary of violence and alcohol abuse.
Sasha’s Allegations: “I Was So Alone”
In her detailed posts, Sasha claimed she endured years of emotional and physical abuse behind closed doors.
She wrote that people she confided in urged her to keep silent to “protect someone else’s image,” leaving her isolated. She alleged that after one violent incident, she was told, “People love me; no one is going to believe you,” adding that this was the moment she realised she had only herself left to protect the children.
Sasha said she often covered bruises with makeup—including while heavily pregnant—and described rebuilding her life from scratch with only her children and basic belongings after leaving the marriage.
She further asked the public to stop tagging or mentioning Canary in her posts, saying it interferes with her healing and affects her children.

Canary Responds: “I Am Part of the Unreported Statistics of Abused Men”
Shortly after Sasha’s statements, Canary released his own response on X, saying he had long chosen silence but felt compelled to correct the narrative.
He said he is among the many men who experience domestic violence but remain silent due to societal expectations. “I restrained myself immensely despite all provocations and assaults. I have evidence of myself bleeding after being assaulted,” he stated, adding that friends and family are aware of his experiences.
Canary also denied claims of neglecting his children, asserting that he has continued to provide financial support every month—even though he has only seen them once in the last ten months.
He further revealed that he had been granted custody by court on grounds that Sasha had allegedly deserted the children “in a locked apartment with a maid” while travelling abroad. According to him, the ruling has never been enforced, and he has repeatedly been denied access.
“Since January, I have been denied access to my children despite numerous requests and third-party interventions,” he said.
Canary concluded by urging men to speak out against domestic violence and requested privacy as he focuses on healing.
