The Minister of Works and Transport, Edward Katumba, has announced that Karuma Bridge will reopen to the public tomorrow morning at 6:00 AM after undergoing months of repairs. However, the reopening will be limited to buses and light vehicles, as repairs for heavy trucks are still ongoing.
Minister Katumba made the announcement during the Prime Minister’s Question Time in Parliament in response to an inquiry by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa on the progress of the bridge's repairs.

“I am happy to inform Parliament that I promised that before Christmas, Karuma Bridge will be opened for people traveling in that direction. Karuma will be open tomorrow by 6:00 AM for light vehicles and buses as we finalize the repairs for the heavy trucks. Bear with us; we will start with buses and light vehicles tomorrow,” Katumba stated.

The reopening of Karuma Bridge comes as a relief for travelers, especially during the festive season, as it provides a crucial connection for routes heading north. However, heavy truck operators will have to wait for further updates as repairs on the bridge continue to ensure its safety and durability for all traffic.

The Ministry of Works and Transport has urged road users to cooperate and adhere to the guidelines to facilitate smooth operations during the phased reopening.
