The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Presidential Candidate, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has pledged major infrastructural developments for Mitooma District in his next term of office. Key among these is the extension of the Ishaka–Kashenshero tarmac road through Mitooma to Rukungiri District, as well as the Bwizibwera–Nyakambu–Rukungiri road.
Addressing a massive rally at Kirambi–Ruhinda Market Grounds in Mitooma District, President Museveni also confirmed the last-mile extension of electricity to the remaining three of the district’s 18 sub-counties. He noted that this milestone demonstrates the significant development achievements attained by the people of Mitooma under the NRM government.

The President added that the NRM plans to broaden access to education and health services in Mitooma District. He noted that the district now has 109 government primary schools, 16 government secondary schools, a general hospital, and several Health Centre IVs and IIIs spread across sub-counties and parishes.

Candidate Museveni announced that the UGX 360 billion fund earmarked for revamping the tea sector will be accessible to all tea farmers. He urged the people of Mitooma to take full advantage of this opportunity to boost their tea production.

He further assured residents that support will also be extended to other major cash crop growers. Museveni encouraged Mitooma residents to embrace sustainable land use practices and emphasized that broad participation in wealth-creation initiatives would significantly contribute to national development. He rallied those still engaged in subsistence farming to transition to commercial agriculture.

The President outlined several job-creating sectors for potential wealth creators, including opportunities in skills development and artisanship. He also urged the people of Mitooma District to defend free universal education in government schools.

Museveni reaffirmed his commitment to intensifying poverty-alleviation initiatives and guided residents on viable wealth-creation strategies, particularly the Four-Acre Model. He highlighted enterprises such as dairy farming, poultry, fish farming, fruit growing, coffee, cocoa, and others as proven ventures, and cited various successful Ugandan wealth creators as examples to emulate.

He emphasized the importance of peace and security as foundations of national development and warned against sectarian politics and gender chauvinism. Museveni stated that the NRM’s mass line is anchored on unity, which has delivered lasting peace and stability in the country. He urged the people of Mitooma to safeguard these gains and called on the youth to take the lead in protecting NRM achievements and mobilizing grassroots support for his re-election and for all NRM candidates in the forthcoming general elections.

He appealed to President Museveni to support the completion of the fencing of Queen Elizabeth National Park to curb human–wildlife conflict in the area.
Deputy Speaker Tayebwa also highlighted the impact of government socio-economic programs—including the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, the Youth Livelihood Programme, and the Women Empowerment Fund—on the people of Mitooma District.
