Two teachers from Nyakasa Primary School in Ntungamo District have been remanded to prison after being charged with Conspiracy to Defeat Justice. The accused, Tunanukye Marsaile and Nkumiriza Molly, were arraigned before the Ntungamo Chief Magistrates Court this afternoon by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPPUGANDA). The court remanded them until March 26, 2025.

Fraudulent enrollment scheme uncovered
The duo, both employed as teachers, allegedly interfered with a legal process concerning a police investigation into pupil enrollment at Nyakasa Primary School. Investigations revealed that they transferred nursery pupils to Primary One in an attempt to inflate enrollment numbers and secure a larger capitation grant from the government.

Their arrest is part of a broader crackdown on fraudulent practices in the education sector within the district. They now join the Ntungamo District Education Officer, Municipal Education Officer, and several head teachers who were previously charged before the Anti-Corruption Court over similar offenses linked to capitation grant mismanagement.

Authorities have warned that further investigations into education fund fraud are ongoing, and more arrests may follow as they seek to restore integrity in the sector.
