Mukono
The Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) East has successfully busted a violent robbery gang that had been terrorizing residents in Mukono Municipality and its environs for some time.
According to police, the gang — locally known as “Eggaali” — consisted of youths who carried out a series of aggravated robberies using dangerous weapons including knives, pangas, and pavers. The criminals targeted members of the public, snatching valuables such as mobile phones, bags, cash, laptops, and wristwatches. The gang operated mainly along Kayunga Road, Kusatu, Nasuuti, and Wantoni areas, leaving many residents living in fear.

KMP East spokesperson confirmed that the operation led to the dismantling of the gang, though the exact number of suspects arrested is yet to be released. Police say investigations are ongoing to establish whether the gang is linked to other robbery incidents in the greater Mukono area.
Residents have welcomed the police action, with many expressing relief that the streets are now safer, especially in the affected hotspots.
Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station. They also encouraged victims of the gang to come forward with information that may assist in further investigations and recovery of stolen property.
This latest success adds to recent police efforts to crack down on violent crime in the Kampala Metropolitan area and surrounding districts.
