A joint security task force on February 16, 2026 conducted coordinated operations in parts of Wakiso District and Kampala, resulting in the arrest of 255 suspects in an effort to combat crime and enhance public safety.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the operations targeted areas that had been identified as gathering points for individuals suspected of engaging in criminal activities affecting residents.

The swoops were carried out in Nansana West Ward, Kyebando and Gganda in Wakiso Sub-county and Nansana Municipality; Kitukutwe Zone, Kiwologoma and Namugongo Nsawo Zone in Kira Municipality; Kyanja under the Kira Road Policing Area; and selected black spots within Kampala’s Central Business District (CBD).

Police said 65 suspects were arrested in Nansana and surrounding areas, while 38 were picked up in Kira Municipality. In Kyanja, 16 suspects were apprehended.

Within the CBD, 136 suspects — 134 males and two females — were arrested.
“All suspects were screened and charged with offences related to possession of suspected narcotic substances and other related crimes. They are currently detained at the respective police stations pending processing and court appearance,” Owoyesigyire said.

Security teams also recovered exhibits of suspected narcotic substances during the operations.
Police described the crackdown as successful, noting that it forms part of ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal elements, dismantle crime-prone gathering points, and ensure continued public safety.
Authorities assured the public that similar operations will continue to maintain law and order and provide a peaceful environment for all citizens.
