Residents gather to welcome President Museveni in Kanungu

KANUNGU – President Yoweri Museveni, accompanied by First Lady Janet Museveni, continued his tour of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in Kanungu District, highlighting its impact on poverty alleviation.
During the visit, the President met Mr. Kenneth Ayesiga, a beneficiary of the PDM program who established the Parish Model Restaurant using PDM funds. Ayesiga has since expanded into piggery farming and now earns over one million shillings in monthly profit. Museveni praised his achievements, calling them a testament to the success of the initiative. “This is another example of what we have been telling our people—it is possible to get out of poverty. I therefore urge leaders to continue preaching the NRM message of wealth creation,” Museveni said.
On their way to meet leaders of the Kigezi sub-region, the President and First Lady also visited the Kanungu Nyekundire (NRM Volunteers) group, commending them for their steadfast support of the ruling party even in difficult times. He assured them that concerns raised about the region would be addressed.
President Museveni’s tour of the Kigezi sub-region aims to reinforce the government's commitment to eradicating poverty through initiatives like PDM. In Kisoro, he reiterated his mission to spread the "gospel" of overcoming obwooro (poverty), urging Ugandans to embrace government programs designed to uplift their livelihoods.
