MITOOMA
A Parish Chief from Mitooma District has been arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court on charges of corruption after allegedly extorting millions of shillings from desperate job applicants.
Owarimpa Esther, the Parish Chief of Ruhehe North Parish in Kabira Sub-County, Mitooma District, was presented in court by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (AntiGraft_SH) in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Owarimpa in Court
Prosecutors allege that between October 2025 and January 2026, while serving at Mitooma District Local Government, Esther solicited and received bribes from several job applicants. She reportedly promised to influence the District Service Commission (DSC) to secure them employment in exchange for money.
The accused is said to have collected millions of shillings through this scheme.
Owarimpa Esther denied the charges. She has been remanded to prison until April 27, 2026, when she is expected to reappear in court.
This case forms part of the ongoing crackdown on corruption within local government institutions, particularly cases involving the abuse of office to exploit citizens seeking employment opportunities.
Anti-corruption agencies have urged the public to report any similar cases of job-related bribery to the nearest police station or the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.
