In a strategic move to decentralize and enhance medical services, Mbarara City technical authorities, led by City Town Clerk Justine Barekye, conducted a comprehensive monitoring exercise of several key health and infrastructure projects. The inspection, which followed a senior management meeting today, focused on ensuring that recent investments are translating into tangible service delivery for residents.

A primary highlight of the tour was the newly upgraded Kicwamba Health Centre III. Officials confirmed that the facility is now fully operational and outfitted with state-of-the-art medical equipment. The center is already attending to patients, significantly reducing the distance residents previously traveled to access maternal and primary healthcare.

The team also inspected ongoing works at Nyakayojo Health Centre III, where the construction of a new multi-storeyed building is underway. This expansion is a prerequisite for the facility's imminent upgrade to a Health Centre IV status. Once completed, Nyakayojo will be equipped to handle more complex medical emergencies and surgical procedures, further decongesting the regional referral hospital.

During the site visit, when questioned about the sustainability and the potential patient volume for the expanded facility, officials remained confident in the demand for services.
“Where are you going to get the clients? Of course, I cannot fail to get them,” noted one official, highlighting the high demand for quality healthcare within the growing city boundaries.

In addition to the health facilities, the technical team also monitored progress on the Buremba Road project, emphasizing that reliable road infrastructure is essential for emergency medical referrals and general access to these upgraded health units.

The City Town Clerk, Justine Barekye, reaffirmed the administration's commitment to strict supervision of all taxpayer-funded projects to ensure they meet the required standards and timelines for the benefit of Mbarara City dwellers.
