Supporters of Bushenyi District Woman MP aspirant Vianah Kemigisha Kashaya, also known as Nyamunyonyi, have accused supporters of the incumbent MP Annet Katusiime Mugisha of defacing their candidate’s campaign posters. Vianah confirmed that several of her posters have been vandalized and said she suspects her opponent’s supporters are responsible for the act.

The alleged incidents have been reported in Ishaka Town, Bushenyi Town, Ibaare Sub-county, and parts of Bumbaire Sub-county. A youth leader from Vianah’s camp described the act as “the true definition of dirty politics,” carried out by “ignorant and childish politicians,” and urged supporters to remain calm in a social media post. Tensions reportedly escalated on August 19, 2025, when supporters from the two camps clashed at the Bushenyi–Ishaka Municipality headquarters ahead of President Museveni’s meeting with tea farmers.

Although Vianah has not yet held an official rally, she has been conducting village-to-village mobilization, often drawing enthusiastic crowds of youth who chant her name whenever she arrives at public functions such as funerals, church services, and community gatherings. The controversy over campaign materials comes amid growing frustration over poor service delivery in parts of Bushenyi, especially in Bitooma Town Council.

Annet kneels down looking for support

Social media platforms have recently been flooded with complaints from residents. One of them, Mwesiime Yonah, said:
“We, the people of Bitooma, do not have a government secondary school or a seed school. We also have very few people on the government payroll under the incumbent’s regime. This means we are lagging behind in development and social empowerment. We regret sending the incumbent MPs to Parliament, and come rain or shine, we shall decide differently this time.”

Observers note that the growing tension over campaign materials and dissatisfaction with service delivery could significantly influence voter sentiment ahead of the 2026 general elections, particularly in areas that feel neglected by the current leadership.

So far, three women have picked nomination forms to contest for the Bushenyi District Woman MP seat in the upcoming elections: Annet Katusiime Mugisha (Incumbent and NRM Flag Bearer), Caroline Namara, alias Nyonyozi and Vianah Kemigisha Kashaya, alias Nyamunyonyi
