Parliament’s Director of Communications and Public Affairs, Chris Obore Ariko, along with six other senior officials, has been remanded to Luzira Prison until July 7, 2026, after appearing in the Anti-Corruption Court on charges of embezzlement of public funds, money laundering, and related offences.
The group was arrested in an operation led by the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) and charged before Grade One Magistrate Esther Asiimwe. Prosecutors allege the officials misappropriated funds linked to the Parliamentary Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (SACCO), with the total amount involved exceeding Shs 27–37 billion.

The accused and alleged amounts include:
Itute Stella remains at large and is yet to be arrested.
The case is connected to the alleged mismanagement of SACCO funds during the tenure of former Speaker Anita Among. All the accused have denied the charges. The court remanded them to allow further investigations and for the prosecution to prepare to commit the money laundering charges to the High Court.
This development comes amid broader scrutiny of financial irregularities in Parliament. The IGG’s operation highlights ongoing efforts to tackle high-level corruption within public institutions.
The matter returns to court on July 7, 2026. Further details on the specific transactions and any additional suspects are expected as investigations continue.
