Kampala,
The Uganda Police have issued a public warning about a growing trend of fraudsters disguising themselves as religious leaders while secretly operating as traditional healers. These individuals have reportedly scammed Ugandans out of millions of shillings, leaving many in financial distress.
According to police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, preliminary investigations have revealed a disturbing pattern. The suspects pose as pastors by day but operate as traditional healers at night, often using places of worship as fronts for their deceptive activities.
"These individuals lure victims with false promises of miracles and wealth. When victims demand refunds—often in cash or property—the fraudsters resort to threats to silence them," Kituuma stated.
Authorities have already identified several suspects involved in these fraudulent activities and are preparing to expose and prosecute them. The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or encounters to law enforcement.
"We call upon Ugandans to be cautious and verify the credibility of religious leaders before entrusting them with their money and belongings," Kituuma emphasized.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing, and the police have assured the public of their commitment to bringing the culprits to justice.
For any information regarding suspected fraudsters, the public is encouraged to contact the nearest police station or use the police helpline.
